An update from TfL 15 April 2016:

Utility Work

In order to build the new viaduct over Baldwins Lane and Watford Road, we must divert a number of utilities in the area.  These works began in early March and are due to take six months to complete.

The next phase will take place from Monday 18 April to Sunday 29 May 2016. The works involve excavating areas of the carriageway and footway in order to divert existing gas and electrical services.

The majority of the work will take place between 0800hrs and 1800hrs from Monday to Sunday.

Where traffic management is required for the works, this is expected to take place during the following times:

  • Monday 18 April to Sunday 29 May (all day): The pedestrian crossing across Watford Road will continue to be closed and a temporary crossing put in place.
  • Weekdays (from 9.30am to 4pm) and weekends (all day): Single lane closure on the Watford Road roundabout and approaches to and from Baldwins Lane and Watford Road.
  • Weekdays (from 9.30am to 4pm): Single lane working on Baldwins Lane managed by stop/go signage.

The above outlines the anticipated arrangements we aim to have in place. There is a possibility the electrical cables will be deeper than our surveys have suggested. If this is the case additional traffic management may need to be put in place.  We will communicate this to local residents if this occurs.

The work is still subject to final approvals from Hertfordshire County Council Highways. We will update you on the further phases of work in due course.

Croxley Green library announce their new pilot project called Open+. Open+ will help improve the service to library customers by allowing them to provide self-service access to many of the library services at Croxley Green library beyond the current staffed opening hours.

What is Open +?

Open+ is a system which controls a range of equipment in the library such as door access, lights, security systems, as well as the self-service kiosks and public computers. It will allow them to extend the opening hours on a self-service basis, and therefore make the service more accessible to their existing customers, but also those who find it difficult to visit during staffed hours. Self-service hours will include opening earlier in the morning and staying open later on some evenings. However this will not impact on the room hire arrangements that are currently in place with existing partners.  During self-service operation customers will be able to borrow books, DVDs and magazines, use the public PCs or study. Library Link will also provide an enquiry service by providing a video link to experienced staff at Welwyn Garden City library during the advertised Library Link hours.

Access to the library during Open+ hours is via the customer’s library membership card and library PIN, and requires a short signing up process over and above the standard library registration procedure. This is to ensure that they are able to provide a safe environment for all their customers and everyone understands what is available and who is eligible. The Open+ service is available to anyone over 16.

Customers can sign up for Open+ during staffed opening hours which at Croxley are:

Monday:        14.00-18.00

Tuesday:        9.30-18.00

Wednesday:  9.30-18.00

Thursday:       Closed

Friday:            9.30-18.00

Saturday:       9.30-13.00

Sunday:          Closed

If you would like to find out more, or have any questions or concerns, pop into their Open+ drop in session at Croxley Green library on Monday 21 March between 6pm and 8pm and talk to senior managers. Alternatively staff will be happy to answer your questions.
