Proposal Agreed In Principle to Redevelop Former Red Cross Building

Croxley Green Parish Council Backs New District Council Proposal to Redevelop Former Red Cross Building

Published: 27 November 2024

Croxley Green Parish Council is pleased to announce its agreement in principle to a new proposal that could bring significant benefits to the local community through the redevelopment of the former Red Cross building on Barton Way.

The latest initiative, proposed by Three Rivers District Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, in response to the Parish Council’s offer to purchase the site, aims to redevelop the now unused former Red Cross centre into a modern, multi-purpose facility. The ground floor would house a dedicated space for the Parish Council, featuring a sizeable, versatile community space alongside contemporary office facilities. Above this, the plan includes up to eight two-bedroom flats designed to support local families.

While the proposal is at an early stage, it represents an exciting opportunity for Croxley Green. The next steps involve detailed discussions about the financial and operational implications of the plan, as well as an assessment of its overall viability.

Cllr David Tobin, Chair of Croxley Green Parish Council, expressed enthusiasm about the project:
“Our existing building, basically a former Portakabin, is coming to the end of its useful life and having a brand new parish office next to the library and our ability to manage a community facility for Croxley would in our view be a great move and clearly a ‘win, win’ for all of us if this can all be achieved.”

Cllr Giles-Medhurst shared similar optimism:
“District council officers have worked hard this idea over the last few months to get to this stage. We want to provide the best deal for Croxley Green residents that helps families, provides community space and a new modern parish office in the centre of Croxley. It’s been great to involve David and the parish council in our proposals and we look forward to finalising the plans in the next few weeks and outlining them in detail to residents. I believe this satisfies so many needs and is a win for everyone.”

As the proposal moves forward, it will require planning permission and additional approvals from both the district and parish councils.

Croxley Green Parish Council has been steadfast in its efforts since the closure of the Red Cross Centre in 2019 to ensure that a vital and substantial community space remains on the site and looks forward to collaborating with Three Rivers District Council on this redevelopment project. Committed to aligning the development with the needs and aspirations of the Croxley Green community, Croxley Green Parish Council will continue to keep residents informed and engaged throughout every stage of the process.
