War Memorial Restoration

Essential repairs are being made to the Croxley Green war memorial.

Published: 25 April 2024

You may have noticed Croxley Green’s war memorial is currently undergoing restoration.

The decision to undertake these repairs comes as a result of significant degradation of the concrete bonding previously used to hold the memorial stones together, posing a potential risk of structural failure.

Over time, the weathering effects and natural wear and tear have taken their toll on the integrity of the stone, threatening its stability and longevity. Croxley Green Parish Council has therefore taken proactive steps to ensure its safety and integrity.

The repair works will involve the removal of the deteriorated concrete bonding and its replacement with a safe chemical glue, specially chosen to withstand the test of time and environmental conditions. This will not only restore the structural stability of the memorial but also safeguard it against future deterioration.

The Korean War memorial plaque will also be renovated as part of this project.

Leading the restoration is military grave restorer, Steve Davies, renowned for his expertise in preserving and maintaining historical monuments.

Croxley Green Parish Council has allocated £1500 towards completing the repair works, underscoring our commitment to preserving our community’s heritage.

Due to the current topsy-turvy weather conditions we are unable to give a date when the works will be completed but will be certainly finalised before the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 6.
