Boulders on The Green.
Statement regarding the actions taken by the Croxley Green Parish Council in partnership with TRDC to stop the illegal parking on The Green.

The background to the installation is that over the past year TRDC and the Parish Council have received many complaints about the illegal parking on The Green outside The Artichoke, The Coach and Horses, and the entrance to the Guild. This parking has caused damage to The Green. We have been in discussion with Three Rivers District Council, who own The Green, about how we can stop this illegal parking.
There are numerous signs informing people that parking is not allowed, and wooden posts have previously been installed. These posts have been knocked down on a regular basis and they, along with the signs, have not stopped the parking.
The Green is designated common land and as such we are not allowed to put up any fencing or hedging on its perimeter. We looked at several options which included replacing the wooden posts, or a more substantial option such as the boulders.
The cost to the Parish Council of putting wooden posts along the affected areas was deemed too high with the quotes coming in at around £40k. The boulder option was significantly less at approx. £10k with TRDC providing the labour for their installation. The money for this project has come from the Community Infrastructure Levy fund so residents have not paid for this work.
The size of boulders had to be such that they could be easily seen by drivers and large enough to stop them being easily moved. The larger areas of The Green are not being affected.
I appreciate that not everybody will agree with our solution, but it was felt that action was needed to be taken in the areas affected by the illegal parking. Like all the decisions we take, their efficacy will be evaluated over time.
The Parish Council endeavours to make all decisions in the best interests of the residents of Croxley Green, and we always welcome feedback. However, this should never be in the form of phone calls to our staff that are felt to be abusive.
